Getting ‘Cloud Ready’ Will Dominate Media

The DPP today launched its first annual predictions. Uniquely, The DPP 2017 Predictions were drawn up in consultation with subject matter experts from the whole media supply chain. As a result they provide a compelling real world view of what will be driving media businesses in the next 12-24 months.

The Predictions were formulated at a special DPP Members’ event. They have been produced in association with DPP Member Equinix, and were made available today to all DPP Members.

“We wanted to create predictions that would have real business value, to help companies plan with confidence,” said DPP Managing Director Mark Harrison. “What these predictions show is that the debate about cloud is effectively over: every business now needs to get cloud-ready. But what is interesting is that this urgency of adoption is closely related to a predicted reshaping of the world of content creation and supply.

The DPP 2017 Predictions identify eight areas of predicted change in the next 12-24 months. These areas are placed in a rank order. ‘Getting cloud ready’ was seen as the change that will have the greatest impact, closely followed by business to business work to enable the creation of new content aggregators. Of the eight predictions, the one DPP Members believe will have the lowest business impact will be the evolution of immersive technologies.

“It’s fascinating to see how DPP Members’ predictions reflect key trends we are already seeing being played out from media and entertainment customers deploying in our globally located data centres,” said Matt George, Senior Manager for Content & Digital Media, EMEA, Equinix. “Interconnection and collaboration look set to become even more important as business enablers in driving digital transformation.”

The DPP will share the full results of its predictions at a special presentation and launch at BVE in London on 1 March 2017. DPP Predictions will now be released annually, with an analysis each year of the accuracy of the previous year’s predictions, as well as projections for the year ahead.
