Lighting equipment in action. Round-shape light projection. The Digital Production Partnership (DPP) was founded in January 2011, and came into existence to help speed the transition to fully digital production and distribution in television.

We are a not-for-profit partnership funded and led by the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 with representation from Sky, Channel 5, S4/C, UKTV and BT Sport.

We believe digital technology offers lots of exciting opportunities for everyone involved in the television industry. But it is also full of challenges. As broadcasters we see ourselves as well placed to smooth and accelerate change – and help everyone to enjoy the benefits, with less pain and cost.

So how are we doing this?

It’s useful to think of our work in two main categories. The first is around technology. The DPP leads the standardisation of technical and metadata requirements within the UK broadcast industry to ensure digital video content can be easily and cost effectively distributed to audiences via multiple platforms.

The second area of our work is around shared thinking, information and best practice. The DPP authors major reports, holds public forums, and has made contributions to areas as diverse as budgeting and training. The aim is always to help producers and broadcasters maximise the potential of digital production for themselves and their audiences.

We have benefitted hugely from all the help, insight and advice we have been given by colleagues from across the industry. So if you would like to get involved – or just to be informed about what we do – please join our distribution list. We’d be delighted to hear from you.
